Homeowner saves dead birch for wildlife!

We love reasons to praise people for saving a dead tree!   And we love when wildlife are fast to thank them as well.  This was the case near Lake Superior in Wisconsin where homeowner David Sonstegard and his wife, Judy, topped a dead birch to be able to safely retain it for wildlife.  A Pileated Woodpecker soon rewarded them by foraging on the trunk.  We hope that in the years ahead when David and his family hear the call of the woodpecker on their property they will hear it as a trumpet of thanks from the many species of wildlife that will silently benefit from the tree as it progresses toward its commendable destiny.  David and Judy earn our Wildlife Tree Warden patch and our heartfelt gratitude for being a model of good stewardship!
