Owls WOW Fourth Graders
Did you know that a Barn Owl consumes about 1,000 rodents a year? If it raises a family each year, that number could climb into the thousands. And did you know that when we poison rodents, we poison owls and other wildlife that prey on rodents? Snap traps are a better choice and safer for the environment! These facts and other awesome revelations about the habits and uniqueness of owls amazed 150 fourth graders in Ladera Ranch, CA. Sea and Sage Audubon and Laguna Hills Audubon partnered with the Cavity Conservation Initiative to provide a fun, science-based hands-on program suited for this grade level. The program began with a 40 minutes slide show. The fun continued when eight volunteers, armed with taxidermy items, games and show-and tell items engaged students in further discovery about owls.
